The MaSCA Team is a team of dedicated volunteers that work tirelessly towards our vision to bring together local, national, and international organizations to bring resources and sustainable programming to Mathare residents. Here are some of our core members.
Charles Onyango
Community Engagement – International
Charles grew up in Mathare and now lives in Ottawa, Canada while remaining an active member of the Mathare community. Charles is an avid football player, passionate about creating opportunities for youth through sports.
Katie Cashman
Communications & Fundraising
Katie is an urban planner who is passionate about creative and collaborative public space development, especially in the challenging environment of Mathare. Katie is focusing on ways to grow MaSCA through communications and fundraising.
Lucas Odhiambo
Community Engagement – Kenya
Lucas was born and raised in Mathare. He is an active member of the Mathare Community with a long history of working with local NGOs. Lucas works with the community to engage volunteers, community members and local partners.
Luis Pedro de Macedo
Architect and Urban Planner – Europe
Luis is a portuguese Architect currently living in Switzerland. He also has experience in Urban Planning working for UN-Habitat and he is interested in participatory process, emergency response and risk management.
Emily Nyamubura
Community Engagement – Kenya
Emily was born and lives in Mathare, Kenya. Emily is very active in the Mathare Community and actively finds new programs that MaSCA can support in Mathare. Emily runs the monthly children’s lunch in the Mathare community centre.
Kareem Ibrahim
Policy and Development
Kareem was introduced to the Mathare Community while completing a work term in Nairobi. As an avid public policy and community building enthusiast, Kareem works on policy & strategy development and is passionate about social justice, equity, and human rights.
Idris Maloba
Community Engagement – International
Idris was born in Kenya but now lives in Ottawa, Canada. Having spend part of his childhood in Mathare, Idris cares about programs that create opportunities for women and children and works to connect international charities with the Mathare Community.
Nina Gericke
Communications & Fundraising
Nina lives in Ottawa, Canada. Nina focuses on growth and development of the international MaSCA community and leads international communications and the fundraising strategy, and is really excited about rebuilding the Kinatco community centre.
